Summary
Experience a taste of South Africa on this outstanding tour of some of the country’s most famous sights. From the beautiful city of Cape Town, travel to the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands region, with its historic towns and scenic vineyards. The journey ends in the delightful coastal town of Knysna on South Africa’s picturesque Garden Route.

Itinerary...

Day 1 To Cape Town: Fly overnight from London to Cape Town with British Airways. (N)

Day 2 Cape Town: Arrive and take a short orientation tour, including a cable car ascent of Table Mountain (weather permitting). Transfer to the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront* for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure. (N)

Day 3 Cape Peninsula: Full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Travel along spectacular coastal roads to the Cape of Good Hope and return via the penguin colony at Simon’s Town and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. (B)

Day 4 To Cape Winelands: Morning at leisure to explore the Victoria & Albert Waterfront or take an optional excursion to Robben Island (£30 per person). Drive to Franschhoek, the gourmet capital of South Africa, and stay 2 nights at the Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 5 Cape Winelands: Full day tour of the Cape Winelands, travelling through the vineyard-filled valleys of Stellenbosch and Paarl. There will be two wine tastings and a cellar tour. (B)

Day 6 To Oudtshoorn: Travel to Hermanus**, where whales may be seen between July and November. Continue to Oudtshoorn, centre of the late Victorian fashion-led ostrich feather industry. Stay overnight at the Queens Hotel. (B)

Day 7 To Knysna: Morning visit to an ostrich farm, including an orientation tour of Oudtshoorn and ostrich lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Knysna and stay 2 nights at the Belvidere Manor. (B, L)

Day 8 Garden Route: Take the ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Guided nature walk and outdoor buffet lunch. Afternoon tour along the Garden Route, visiting Plettenberg Bay, the Tzitzikamma Forest and Stormsriver. (B, L)

Day 9 To Cape Town: Drive to Cape Town via Swellendam, where you will stop for lunch (payable locally). Take an optional visit to the Drostdy Museum. Fly to London this evening with British Airways. (B)

Day 10 London: Early morning arrival. (N)

* In Cape Town, we recommend that you upgrade from a Standard room to a Business Class room at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront. For supplement prices, please see Dates & Prices.
** Whale watching departure (11 days / 8 nights). An extra night will be spent at The Marine in Hermanus. You will have the opportunity to look for the southern right whale by boat (optional excursion).

Mount Nelson, Cape Town Extension Mount Nelson, Cape Town Extension, 5 Days / 3 Nights

Cape Town is one of the world’s most spectacularly situated cities, and extending your stay here provides the opportunity to explore it at a leisurely pace. Over 100 years old and one of South Africa’s most famous hotels, the ‘Nellie’ is set in beautifully landscaped gardens at the foot of Table Mountain. Managed by Orient-Express, the hotel is well known for the sumptuous afternoon teas served in the lounge. The Planet Champagne Bar is a chic spot to enjoy evening cocktails.

Day 9 To Cape Town: Tonight you will return to Cape Town. Stay at the Mount Nelson Hotel for 3 nights. (B)

Shamwari Extension

Shamwari Extension, 4 Days / 2 Nights

South Africa is famous for its game viewing, and the malaria free Eastern Cape makes an excellent safari option. Set in 16,000 hectares of countryside along the Bushman’s River, Shamwari provides a luxury safari experience, with morning and evening game walks and drives looking for the ‘Big Five’ of lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant.

Day 9 To Shamwari: Transfer to Shamwari Private Game Reserve and stay 2 nights at the luxury Long Lee Manor. Bayethe or Riverdene Lodges can also be booked, subject to availability, for the same price. Afternoon game drive. (B, L, D)

Day 10 Shamwari: Big game viewing in open 4 x 4 vehicles with experienced guides. (B, L, D)

Day 11 To London: Morning game drive. After lunch, transfer to the airport. Fly from Port Elizabeth to London, via Johannesburg, with British Airways. (B, L)

Victoria Falls & Chobe Extension

Victoria Falls & Chobe Extension, 7 Days / 5 Nights

Combining the majestic Victoria Falls with the spectacular game of Chobe National Park, this extension includes the highlights of both Zambia and Botswana. Chobe is only a short drive from the Victoria Falls and is home to the largest elephant herds in southern Africa.

Day 9 To Cape Town: Tonight you will return to Cullinan Hotel for 1 night. (B)

Day 10 To The Victoria Falls: Transfer to the airport and fly to Livingstone, via Johannesburg. Transfer to Hotel Zambezi Sun for 2 nights. (B)

Queens Htel, Oudtshorn
The Queen's Hotel is situated next to the Ostrich Museum and within walking distance of local shops. The hotel consists of 24 twin and 16 double room all of which are en suite. The hotel has a swimming pool.

 

Belvidere Manor, Knysna
